The people behind it
Where it comes from
Fragments was created from the idea that a culture can survive in the smallest things: a symbol remembered, a story retold, a pattern passed from one hand to another.
Across fifty-four cards, history is not presented as a single, uninterrupted story, but as it has been inherited, piece by piece. Each illustration preserves something distinct, yet every card belongs to a larger whole. When the deck is brought together, those individual pieces become a portrait of a people whose identity has endured across centuries, borders, and generations.
Designed by
Masha Keryan
Masha Keryan (b. Yerevan, Armenia) is a Boston-based artist with a research-driven visual system for exploring pressure. Drawing on Armenian and American experiences, her work investigates the ways bodies, rituals, and symbols carry and transform memory. Rooted in observation, Keryan’s practice moves across cultural histories, with painting as the primary site where that visual language is pushed and pulled.
Produced by
Davit Torosyan
Davit Torosyan (b. Yerevan, Armenia) is a New York-based playing card collector and the creator of Fragments. A childhood surrounded by Armenian art and architecture shaped his visual sensibility long before it inspired this project. With Fragments, he set out to create the first fully custom playing card deck devoted to Armenian heritage, bringing a collector’s eye for craftsmanship to the culture that shaped him.
